The tsunami struck without warning, consuming entire villages in its sweep. Buildings shattered like fragile toys, and the website roar that followed was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath rubble, their fate precarious. The magnitude of the disaster was unprecedented, forcing survivors to confront a future forever scarred.
Rescue operations sprang into action, battling against time and dangerous conditions to locate those still trapped. The nations watched in horror as the full magnitude of the disaster became apparent, offering condolences to the stricken population.
Awful Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of bedhead hair. I couldn't make it to look presentable. As I was getting ready out the door, I trippedon and spilled all over the floor. To make matters worse, I was completely late for work.
I sweating. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was pointless.
The rest of the day was even worse. fell apart. I stay awake.
By the time I reached my destination, I was utterly defeated. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
